We love entertaining during the summer. When friends advise us they are attending conferences on the island, we treat them to a day of sightseeing and a lobster dinner. We know that many conferences will include visits to some of PEI's more popular attractions such as Cavendish and Anne of Green Gables. So we offer our friends an experience that reflects the eastern part of the island where we live. In the early morning we pick up our guests at their hotel and head out to the Cardigan Village Interpretive Centre where we see the history of boat building and Canada's Smallest Library. Our next stop is Launching Harbour where we may see lobster traps lining the wharf and working fishing boats. This harbour is a great spot for picture taking. We then head north to Souris to see the panoramic views of the ocean and the ferry boat to the Magdalene Islands. We continue north to Basin Head where we kick off our shoes and walk in the warm singing sands. If time permits we continue north to East Point Lighthouse to see the two tides meet. Throughout our road trip, we stop at local craft stores for some souvenier shopping. We then return back to our home for a supper of fresh steamed mussels and lobsters while listening to the music of PEI's own Fiddler's Sons. At the end of the day, our ourselves and our friends are tired and sated, but deeply satisfied for having enjoyed some of the best experiences PEI offers in scenery, lifestyle, seafood, and music.
